Dark Hollow Manor is a main location that we released for the Skyline Valley major content update for Fallout 76. This building and surrounding area was perhaps one of the most collaborative areas we've worked on during my time on 76.
The structure itself was concepted by Soufian Addioui, you should check out his concepts here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/y4A9a5
Much of the design and feel of the area came from a collaborative effort between Soufian, Jordan (https://www.artstation.com/jord-uk) and Nick Patrick where they arrived on the unique feel to this area. Much effort was put into making this centerpiece at the heart of the Skyline Valley area storm feel special.
Emanuele Celli (https://www.artstation.com/emanuelecelli) was responsible for blocking out and making most of the original modular kit, placement and setup in CK, as well as building the original 2 trim materials that the kit used and layouts most of it still uses. He lay the foundation of the structure in terms of sizing, UVing and many other essentials that I (and Merrick Wong) then built on later.
My responsibility solely involved working on the exterior of this structure. I remade the textures in Zbrush and Painter to Emanuele's trim layouts, and created 2 additional trim sheets from scratch, one for larger roof panels, and one which included 4 window options for adding variety to the building's many many windows.
I also made a number of new modular pieces after we changed the layout and a number of bespoke destroyed sections to better reflect the severity of the damage to the environment the structure is placed within. I've included a brief breakdown at the bottom of the post showing a few examples of how the Manor was constructed.
The only elements of the building I didn't make was the doors and some of the destruction to the rear of the building of which Merrick Wong was responsible for. He also built the entire interior of the structure so check out his post here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/6Lvxzx
In addition to creating the building itself, I did a lighting pass of the structure itself as well as set dressed it up to and around the foundations.
There's too many people who contributed to realising this iconic location to shout them all out, but Courtney Raine, Ryan Banks, David Bullock (https://www.artstation.com/davidbullock3d), Tiago Martins (https://www.artstation.com/tmvgmota) and Luna Dalton were particularly important in seeing it done.
This was a huge team effort that went through many iterations and passed through many hands but I think we're all proud of the result we achieved here.
